i am really enjoying this discussion and appreciate all the effort being put into figuring out how to connect with other “nodes” and lands. our idea from the start was to free the land, even though we own it. and also be in an area where there is a lot of wilderness and our access to foods, medicine and other materials extends beyond our own land.
we do want our land to eventually be some kind of trust so that it can never be touched / sold in the future. we have discussed the possibility of creating a non-profit, we have looked into it a bit, but not taken the dive.
we are only a few years away from completely paying off our land. we have lived here for over 3 years and have heavily focused on rewilding the land, planting perennials, fruit trees, nut trees, etc etc. we want to be off grid in the truest sense of the word, meaning no dependence on fossil fuels, on buying food, etc etc. some of these are many years down the line, but it is our goal. this is what i meant when i said that although we are “homesteaders”, we do not necessarily align with the way most people approach living with the land.
anyhow, all that to say, i appreciate your comments kevin. i definitely agree with what you describe. for those of you that don’t know me, i have known kevin (in real life haha) for many years. he has known my husband for well over a decade. and i am still trying to get him and his family to move up to our neck of the woods… kevin, let’s do it
